Good oral hygiene and visits to the dentist for gum disease can prevent periodontitis. If you are diagnosed with advanced gum disease, you should consult a periodontist or dentist specializing in gum disease.

You may also be referred to your oncologist for treatment of other dental conditions such as tooth decay and gingivitis. Once you have diagnosed a gum disease, your dentist will usually diagnose it due to a combination of oral health problems, dental history and other factors.  
    
How a periodontist treats gum disease depends on the amount of decay that occurs on the gums, teeth, supporting tissues and bones, and the frequency of cleaning.

You may be wondering what exactly gum disease is and how you can know if you suffer from periodontitis. The terms "gingivitis, Periodontitis and periodontitis are often used interchangeably, but they actually have three different meanings. 

They can be used to describe the entire spectrum of gum disease, including gingivita, which is the mildest form of the disease and is most commonly related to a milder form such as ulcerative colitis or rheumatoid arthritis of the gums. It can also be described as a severe stage, which for periodontists is often referred to as "time of year" or "year of treatment."
    
Perri Sansi Gum disease includes inflammation of the gums, ulcerative colitis and rheumatoid arthritis of the gums and their severity ranges from redness and swelling of the gums (divitis) to more serious infections (periodontitis). Periodontosis is permeated with the more general term gum disease and will therefore include both "gum disease" and "periodontosis.

" It ranges from gum infections caused by bacterial infections, which lead to plaque and tartar formation, to an advanced, chronic form that can lead to permanent damage to teeth and loss of teeth, as well as a host of other health problems. 

There are many common types of periodontitis, including ulcerative colitis, rheumatoid arthritis, necrotizing periodontitis, and systemic diseases - the associated periodontitis.
